Gamers in the United States have been enjoying the new Wii U console – dubbed the ‘living room revolution’ – for about a week now, leaving us Brits green as Luigi’s dungarees with envy. But Nintendo has made up for this by announcing a very special launch event to take place at the HMV store on Oxford Street, London at midnight on Thursday 29th of November.
The Wii U with the innovative tablet-based GamePad controller goes on sale from Friday the 30th and the London flagship store will play host for the thousands of Nintendo fans expected to face wind and rain to get to grips with the latest a greatest console from the Japanese games veteran. As well as being amongst the first in the U.K to play it, the first 100 in line will also pick up a copy of New Super Mario U and a game of their choice absolutely free (you have to buy the console, of course!). The next 100 won’t be left empty handed as they will all receive a £5 voucher for any additional Wii U hardware or software purchased and the first 500 will all get themselves an exclusive Wii U goodie bag!
Doors open at 11pm on the night, and stocks have been increased in preparation for an inevitable sell out following the 2006 launch of the original Wii. Some games will be demoed and players can go hands on before purchasing 24 possible release day titles such as Zombi U and Super Mario.
HMV’s Head of Games says proudly: “We’re thrilled to be hosting the Official Midnight Launch Event for Wii U at our Oxford Street flagship, which is fast-becoming the natural home of all major games launches in the UK..”
