Nokia launching “Perks” voucher service

Thanks to some eagle-eyed web searching, it would seem that evidence of a new voucher/discount scheme will be launching from Nokia shortly.

Screenshots and a video (now been taken offline) have surfaced indicating that Nokia Perks will be a new service for Nokia smartphones, aimed at providing a mobile-based discount and voucher service.

The website (www.perks.nokia.com) is currently offline, but the premise when it goes live is to offer discounts exclusively to Nokia customers, similar to Groupon, VoucherCloud and Google Offers. We’re seeing that there will also be a smartphone app for certain Nokia handsets which will display your voucher or barcode to be shown in store or at your chosen event.

Nokia have built in maps integration with the new Perks service, so when you’re out and heading to your chosen discounted venue you have the option to load directions within Nokia (OVI) Maps.

We’re not quite sure this is what Nokia needs to save them from their burning platform, especially as companies such as Groupon and VoucherCloud already have quite a hold on the discount market, as well as offering apps for smartphones.
