Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone handsets look like a couple of winners to us, thanks to some classy industrial design, the speedy implementation of Microsoft’s elegant operating system and also because of Nokia’s special-looking Nokia Maps application. Now rumour has it that the latter could be on its way to all Windows Phone devices.
While details are very thin on the ground, the story goes that the deal between Nokia and Microsoft runs so deep that Nok’s agreed to port its navigation app to any older handset running on Windows Phone, which will instantly gift said handsets free turn-by-turn satnavving with Nokia Drive, as well as offline maps.
The deal would mean that Nokia Maps would start to appear on handsets made by rival hardware manufacturers such as HTC, but stranger things have happened – such as Apple’s continued reliance on Google Maps.
