When will the Nokia N9 rollercoaster end? First we thought it was coming to Europe and the UK and then we were told it wasn’t coming to the UK or the US, and now UK retailer Expansys has the item listed for pre-order!
That’s right, you can now pre-order the MeeGo-powered smartphone in all three colour variants – that’s Black, Cyan and Magenta – and in both 16 and 64GB storage versions too. The handset is SIM-free, sans-contract, so you’re paying outright for the phone itself and the privilege of putting any network SIM into it.
Pocketnow have spoken to a rep at Expansys who has confirmed that the N9 will be available “in the next two weeks”, which seems an awful lot sooner than we expected, given that the countdown timer Nokia put on their Swedish website ended September 21st.
We also received an email this morning from another UK retailer (who for now will remain unnamed, until we clarify details), stating a £519.95 price for the N9 SIM-free. Again, no release date was confirmed, but the e-retailer seemed pretty certain that the handset would be coming to the UK.
Nokia’s N9 will be the first and possibly last smartphone to run the MeeGo 1.2 operating system, a piece of software co-designed by Nokia and Intel. With Nokia’s huge Windows Phone 7 deal well underway, the N9 is likely to be the only of its kind to be sold before Nokia turn their attention to churning out Windows Phone 7 smartphones.
We’re really hoping to get our hands on the N9 sometime within the next month, so Nokia, please let us know if the N9 is going to be sold in the UK and Europe!
