Nokia N9 WILL be launched.. in Kazakhstan!

More news on the Nokia N9’s elusive launch have been reported!

We now know that there’s at least one place in the world you can find the MeeGo handset, which was teased for worldwide distribution, only to be pulled from the USA, UK and Europe for Finnish co. Nokia to focus on its Windows Phone 7 efforts. That place? Kazakhstan! (Yes, it is a real place!)

The Nokia N9 was spotted on a billboard and word suggests you will be able to grab one on September 9th for 99,990 tenge (around £420, from the transcontinental country which was mockingly made infamous by telly funnyman Borat (Sasha Baron Cohen), whose fictional nation’s technological advancements allowed him to play cassettes and own a VCR!

After a much hyped promotional launch, including website countdown timer to the anticipated launch date, the Nokia N9 looked set for a full assault into Europe. Less than a month later, rumours emerged that the US release had been scrapped and the first ever MeeGo-based handset wouldn’t see the light of day. This became confirmed when word spread that other coutries, such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland would be ommited – along with the United Kingdom.

“Although we are delighted with the very positive reception that the Nokia N9 has received, here in the UK there are no plans to offer the Nokia N9 at present.” – said the communication tech firm.

Online retailer Expansys currently has a pre-order page up the N9 for a release despite Nokia’s statement. So we think if you really can’t live without Nokia’s MeeGo mobile, the safe bet is to get on a flight to Kazakhstan. Number-one exporter of potassium – and home of the Nokia N9!
