An iPhone on contract can be a pricey affair, with some customers forced to sacrifice how much internet usage they get per month in order to get the phone cheaper. If you’re an O2 customer in that band with a smaller data allowance than you’d have liked, thankfully O2 has come up with a solution to help you keep tabs on your usage, so that you won’t go over your limit.
The free My O2 app for iPhone users has been updated to include a data tracker, so users can easily check how many megabytes of internet usage they’ve already used, and how much they have left for the remainder of the month.
Of course, Apple’s iOS software for iPhone does keep track of your mobile data usage (if you weren’t aware, it’s in Settings > General > Usage > Mobile Usage), but you have to reset the counter yourself each month. Obviously we want things easier, so O2’s app will reset every month on your billing date, which you can enter yourself when you first download the app.
O2 has also added the ability to purchase data bolt-ons directly from the app itself, so if you’re out and about and your data limit is almost reached, you can easily extend it without having to go into a store or logging in from your PC – very handy.
The My O2 app isn’t new; in fact it’s been around for a while now and is currently at version 2.5. The ability to check your data usage joins the existing options which show your used and remaining minutes and texts, so now the app gives you a complete overview of your usage, directly from your phone.
My O2 is also available on Android as a free download from the Android Market, also offering data usage monitoring.
