O2 UK looks set to offer the new Sony Xperia T exclusively as ‘The Bond Phone’ to celebrate the launch of the twenty-third movie, Skyfall.
Bond’s affinity with Sony gadgets has been apparent in recent movies, with a Sony laptop and Sony Ericsson smartphone usually parts of the spy’s inventory. We reported recently that the forthcoming Xperia T smartphone could be used in Skyfall as Bond’s new blower, and now O2 UK has proven that to be correct.
Xperia Blog has obtained screenshots of O2 UK’s internal system, which shows the Xperia T dressed up as ‘The Bond Phone’, ready to go on sale later this month.
Shortly after the screenshots were posted, the phone appeared on O2’s ‘Coming Soon’ page for customers to pre-register their interest. The dapper smartphone will come with a range of extras to differentiate it from the regular Xperia T, including the 007 ringtone, themes, screensavers and SKYFALL images geo-tagged to the film’s locations plus exclusive James Bond packaging. The 007 Legends game for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will also be free to download for a short time after buying the phone.
Why exactly has James Bond selected this phone to be his secret agent sidekick? Well, asides from a hefty sponsorship from Sony, it’s an absolute beast of a phone. On the back there’s a 13-megapixel camera with LED flash, and on the front you’ll see a 4.55-inch display with a very sharp image quality (1280 x 720 resolution, 323ppi). Ice Cream Sandwich, also known as Android 4.0, is the operating system of choice, and there’s 16GB of internal memory for storing your top secret apps.
The Xperia T takes the power found in the flagship Xperia S even further, and throws the design back to the curved back of the older Xperia Arc phones by Sony Ericsson, which we loved.
