Ofcom seems to be putting quite a bit of thought into getting broadband internet to those “out in the sticks” rural areas as of late. Following plans to allow internet to be available cable-free using the unused air waves after the digital radio switchover, the authority for the UK communications will now put a maximum limit on what internet service providers can charge in our limited service areas.
BT’s charge’s will be affected, and customers out in the countryside will be delighted to know they won’t have to pay for more than they’re getting when Ofcom’s plans come into play, with reports suggesting a 12% annual saving for the UK’s rural residents.
3-million homes and businesses in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland will benefit from the ISP price beheading, and Ofcom are hoping this will encourage competitors to jump onboard thus offering a much greater choice of services to non-city dwellers.
