Official Nokia Lumia 1020/909/EOS image leaks, shows AT&T branding

Nokia’s next major smartphone release is due to take place a week today, but in true tech world fashion we’ve gotten an early glimpse thanks to that Twitter tipster @evleaks.

Previously known as the Nokia EOS, the Nokia Lumia 1020 will mimic the design of the Lumia 920 but pack the epic 41 megapixel PureView camera sensor that Nokia introduced on the 808 PureView.

The image, which is almost certainly a final press picture, shows the front of the Lumia 1020 complete with AT&T branding just to the left of the Nokia logo. Unfortunately just the single image leaked, which depicts the front face of the phone only. Of course, the really interesting stuff is happening on the flipside, but fortunately a recent prototype or review sample got snapped, giving us a glimpse of the huge 41 megapixel sensor.

The Lumia 1020 is expected to offer a familiar design and the same 4.5-inch LED display as the Lumia 920, plus a front facing camera and Qualcomm processing power on the inside. Windows Phone 8 will be the operating system of course, improved upon by Nokia’s ever-increasing suite of impressive apps.

Nokia’s New York event is scheduled for July 11th and we’re expecting to see the Lumia 1020 in the flesh for the very first time. Well, at least officially.

UPDATE: An image showing the back of the Lumia 1020 has now appeared via the very same source. You’ll notice the large xenon flash and raised area which are both identical to the prototype model pictured above.

UPDATE 2: @evleaks now claims that through new information, the phone in question will launch as the Nokia Lumia 909. This makes sense as the 41 megapixel PureView camera sensor it uses first debuted on a phone dubbed the 808 PureView, and given the similarities with the Lumia 900 and Nokia’s recent naming system, it makes much more sense than ‘Lumia 1020’.
