Camera manufacturer Olympus has today unveiled their latest Micro Four Thirds camera with the catchy designation of OM-D E-M5.
As you’ll see from the picture below, the OM-D E-M5 has had its design influenced by the classic Olympus OM line of 35mm cameras from the 70’s. The retro looking digital camera seems to be the cool thing to have at the moment, and no doubt this version of a classic Olympus design will prove to be popular amongst camera enthusiasts.
So, what sort of features do you get with the new OM-D E-M5? Well, you’ll get a 16.1MP Live MOS sensor with the Olympus TruPic VI image processing engine. You’ll also get a high resolution electronic viewfinder. The FAST AF system which was first used on the PEN range is also included on the OM-D E-M5 however Olympus claim that this version is even faster – in fact it’s suppose to be the fastest auto focus available on any digital camera. Also incorporated within the auto focus system is a new 3D AF tracking producing 4.2 fps sequential shooting with continuous autofocus.
Other features of the OM-D E-M5 include the ability to record at HD video at 1080p, the camera also has 10 art filters including the new Key Line, Cross Process II and Dramatic Tone II – allowing you to add a bit of creativity to the pictures you capture. Also included is a tilting 3.0-inch 610,000-dot touch screen OLED.
So, if this sounds like your ideal camera you should be able to get your hands on the OM-D E-M5 sometime in April. When it comes to prices, expect to pay around $999.99 for the body. If you want to get a lens kit, you can choose between either the 12-50mm, f3.5-6.3 lens at $1,299.99. Or you can get the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for $1,099.99.
