After initially popping up uninvited on the Orange website, the Android-powered San Francisco 2 smartphone is now official, complete with a price and specifications sheet.
The sequel to Orange’s very successful budget Android smartphone improves upon its predecessor, meaning you’ll get even more bang for your reasonable buck.
ZTE are the company behind the San Francisco II, branding their own ‘Crescent’ smartphone for Orange to sell as the SF2. The phone runs the latest in Android software – version 2.3 (Gingerbread) – along with some extra apps from Orange.
The San Francisco 2 boasts a decent 3.5-inch TFT touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, an 800MHz processor for a fairly quick performance and access to the world of apps through the Android Market.
Unfortunately storage space is fairly limited at 512MB, but thankfully the phone includes a Micro SD card slot, so you can pop one in and expand your storage up to a maximum of 32GB – plenty of room for all your music, videos and apps.
On the rear of the phone you’ll find a decent quality 5-megapixel camera with autofocus for quick and easy snapping, plus video recording capabilities.
You can expect the audio to be of top notch quality when making and receiving calls, as this phone benefits from Orange’s HD voice feature, meaning crystal clear calls.
“The Orange San Francisco II is a fitting successor to the award-winning first model, and offers the latest developments in data, voice and design,” said Paul Jevons, director of products and devices at Orange UK.
“We are delighted to be following up on the success of the award winning original with such a full-featured product we expect it to be really popular with consumers in the run up to Christmas.”
You might be thinking all of these features will come with a fairly hefty price tag, but you’d be wrong there. Orange will be selling the San Francisco on pay as you go for just £99; or on contract from £10.50 per month. You can grab your ticket to the world of Android at Orange stores and online as of next month.
