Orange and Vodafone to update PAYG tariffs and rewards

UK mobile network Orange is set to do a refresh of its pay-as-you Go or prepay tariffs this month by introducing a list of new rewards for its customers as well as a price rise on the standard tariffs.

Orange’s prepay platform is separated into 5 groups for different types of bundles including Dolphin, Monkey, Canary, Camel and Raccoon and each tariff has received an update of some sort. Dolphin and Monkey customers will receive 400 free text messages (which is an additional 100 free SMS on top of the current number) plus free internet as a monthly reward for topping up £10 a month.

Call charges have been raised from 20p to 25p per minute on the Dolphin, Monkey and Canary plans while users on these plans, as well as Starter users, will be charged 12p per text as opposed to 10p.

These updates equate to a extra 25% on calls to mobiles, landlines and voicemail and a 20% increase in the cost of texting and will come into play as of today (July 1st).

An Orange spokesperson said: “Following a review of our pricing structure, we can confirm that Orange will be making

some changes to its PAYG price plans from 1st July including improvements to Orange top up rewards and Extras. Orange PAYG top up rewards are now richer and Extras are available to more customers.”

“From today Orange will charge an extra 25% on calls to mobiles, landlines and voicemail and a 20% increase in the cost of texting”

Orange are not alone however, as Vodafone has also locked in an updated pay-as-you-go tariff also with its Simply tariff. Customers will see the cost of their calls to mobiles, landlines and voicemail rise 19% and the cost of texting rise 20% from 14 July.

With Orange being part of the Everything Everywhere group with T-Mobile, we can probably expect a rise in prices coming to its partner soon and with O2 and Three likely to follow suit.
