Midway’s classic character, the iconic Pac-man, has raced back into the gaming forefront this week on Xbox LIVE for Windows Phone – but in a way we’ve never seen him before. Usually seen bounding his way through pill-popping ghost-gobbling mazes the little yellow dude appears this time behind the wheel of his very own vehicle in PAC-MAN Kart Rally.
Just as you’d imagine this is essentially Super Mario Kart but with Pac-Man and the spherical hero once again appears with arms, as he did in Pac-Land in 1984 (however, his dodgy hat is thankfully absent) thus allowing him to steer his ride against a host of ghosts and several other shapely sprites in multiplayer action on Windows Phone 7 gadgets such as the Nokia Lumia 800 and HTC Titan across a Wi-Fi connection. Each gamer will require a separate Xbox LIVE ID with downloaded copy of the game and play relies on touchscreen controls as oppose to the tilt method employed in a number of these racing titles, which often makes us a little bit nauseous. The action is fast-paced and power-up fuelled, however from the previews we’ve seen of PAC-MAN Kart Rally the graphics leave much to be desired.
PAC-MAN Kart Rally will soon be joined by a number of other Karting clones as Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing has just been given the starters orders for a launch later this year, and this week has also heard the announcement that Sony staple Sackboy will saddle-up in LittleBigPlanet Karting for Playstation 3 and the game will be officially demoed at this year’s E3 conference in June.
PAC-MAN Kart Rally is available to buy now on Windows Phone Marketplace costing £3.99.
