As part of the PlayStation brand’s 20th birthday celebrations Sony has revealed a retro themed PS4 console in classic PSOne colours that will be sold in the U.S.
The much loved PlayStation (later rebranded PSOne) was launched on December 3rd 1994 and two decades to the day the PS4 20th Anniversary Edition was revealed via video on the company blog. The console features the same 500GB storage and innards of the PS4 currently on the high street but this one is very special in that the colour of the hardware matches that of the very first PlayStation – complete with the original red, green, yellow and blue on the familiar PS logo. Not only do the PS4 console with stand, DualShock 4 controller and PS camera reflect on the legacy of Sony PlayStation in its throwback uniforming but the outer box also features 20th Anniversary branding and each console comes with a unique identification number – certifying it as one of only 12,300 of these units that will go on sale to commemorate the occasion.
Unfortunately for loyal PS fans on this side of the pond, and as mentioned at the start, it appears the 20th Anniversary Edition will only be released in the U.S and Canada with an announcement about how to preorder coming on Saturday 6th December during the PlayStation experience keynote.
As well as the limited edition console PS4, PS3 and PS Vita owners can now change their backgrounds in celebration of PlayStation with some retro themes which are now available on the PS Store and also be sure to head over to the PlayStation blog to read a heartfelt message from President of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida on the twentieth anniversary of one of the world’s most famous gaming names.
