Pokemon GO is throwing in the towel and unbans some players. The banned will be coming back in droves, so it seems Niantic can forgive and forget.
Many players received a ban recently after using third party apps and sites to locate Pokemon. Pokevision especially was apparently causing many issues server side as it was akin to a DDOS attack, according to Niantic.
“Some players may not have realized that some add-on map apps do more than just show you nearby Pokémon,” said Niantic’s CEO in a blog post.
Heavy users of the app were banned too though I find this hard to understand as the site was separate and there should be no way that Niantic could tell if the player was using it or not.
“Because of this we have had to ban some accounts associated with using these add-on map tools, leading to confusion by some users about why they were banned,” said Hanke. “As a result of some changes made to our infrastructure, we are now able to unban this set of accounts.”
Niantic have lifted the ban on players that were using this site but for some, there will be no charity. Players who used third-party apps to spoof their location and visit pokestops etc will remain banned.
Niantic continue to state that any player found cheating in any way will be banned.
