When BlackBerry moved to make BlackBerry 10 its key focus we thought we would see no more of their partnership with Porsche Designs and the swanky and expensive phones that came as a result of it.
However, a recent set of high quality leaked images prove otherwise. The BlackBerry P’9982 shows that the company still wants to make luxurious and exclusive phones with the Porsche Design name on them, but with the new BlackBerry 10 OS as well.
From the looks of things the P’9982 is based on the BlackBerry Z10, with added brushed metal and leather for good measure. In fact, the design looks extremely similar to the first prototype BlackBerry 10 device we ever saw, which back then was codenamed BlackBerry Surfboard, then BlackBerry London.
The back of the phone is clad in classy black leather whilst a polished strip of aluminium runs around the edges. That familiar Porsche Design logo is engraved above the screen, which itself is the same 4.2-inch HD display as the Z10.
N4BB, who leaked a number of high quality hands-on images of the phone, say that the BlackBerry P’9982 will launch some time in 2014 and will cost in the region of $2,000 USD. The original Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9981 was priced very similarly.
As with the P’9981, little will change when it comes to internal specifications when it comes to the new model. The allure is of course in the altered exclusive design and Porsche Design brand, plus the bragging rights that inevitably come with owning a $2k smartphone.
