We’ve just heard word from a very reputable source that the Sony S1 Android Tablet will be available to pre-order in the UK on September 1st.
Thisismynext have managed to get a look at some official documents from a UK Sony Centre store which clearly indicate the UK pre-order date, September 1st. At present there’s no official word on the actual release date or the pre-order date for the S1’s clamshell sibling, the S2 tablet.
Sony announced both the S1 and S2 Android tablets at the end of April this year, giving them both a tentative release date of “autumn”. We later learnt that the release would be during August, so we suppose September 1st isn’t too much of a delay.
The Sony S1 will be Sony’s first attempt at an Android device to hit the market. Dressed in a sleek gloss black case and sporting Android Honeycomb, it sure looks like a nice device and a worthy entrant into the tablet market. Sony will be adding an overlaid user interface of their own to add a special touch to the tablet – this is said to include DLNA connectivity for wirelessly playing back stuff from your tablet on your Sony Bravia TV.
We’ll keep you posted on both a release date for the S1 and a pre-order date for the S2, in the meantime check out Sony’s super cool promo videos for the tablets below!
