Rightmove, the UK’s biggest online property website has teamed up with BT, the UK’s biggest ISP, to list the Internet speeds of around 1 million homes currently listed for sale or rent on its website, according to a report by the Daily Telegraph.
It is understood that Rightmove is intending on adding this extra piece of information alongside the standard information you usually get when looking to buy or rent a property, such as how many bedrooms the property may have, or if it has a garage.
Although neither company has made any official announcement about the partnership, a source close to Rightmove has said “Broadband is becoming one of the most, if not the most, important considerations for prospective buyers. Many people fall in love with a home only to find out it can only get really slow internet. By listing broadband speed with all the other property details buyers will be able to weed out homes that don’t have high-speed access.”
Reports also suggest that Rightmove, which lists around 90 percent of all properties for sale in the UK, will also include information about whether a property will be covered by BT Infinity – which is a new mega fast fibre-optic broadband network that can allow speed of up to 40Mbps. The new fibre-optic network is currently being rolled out across the country with around 80,000 homes a week being connected, with the network due to reach around 16 million homes by 2015.
