You may not have heard of Qualcomm but they have been pushing smartphone processor technology and making smartphones faster and smarter for some time now.
Qualcomm processors can be found in phones from Blackberry, Samsung, HTC and many, many more.
With that said, when we hear that Qualcomm are unveiling their product roadmap including the next generation of processors, we can’t help but get excited about what future smartphones could do.
At their Innovation Qualcomm event in Istanbul this week the company explained what their next line of mobile phone processors would be capable of.
The next Snapdragon processor will be capable of speeds of up to 2.5GHz – nearly twice that of most smartphones now, even the top-end phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S II.
The Snapdragon S4 range of processors will head up the next generation with the highest spec on offer. Along with speeds of up to 2.5GHz in single, dual or quad core variations, the chip will feature Adreno Graphics, Full HD 1080p video playback and 3D capture and playback capabilities.
Qualcomm says that mobile phone manufacturers will be able to start implementing their new tech into products by the end of the year, and we should be able to buy those products early on next year. That’s some more tech we’re going to be keeping our eyes on at the MWC mobile phone conference in February.
Mobile phones with processor speeds higher than my first laptop..whatever next?
