Report Finds U.K Broadband Speeds up to 42% Slower than Advertised

A report from respected newspaper The Guardian reveals the disappointing truth behind our broadband speeds from leading U.K service providers. Confirming what most of us suspect – we’re being considerably short-changed when it comes to our home internet.

Those of you perhaps still waiting for this page to load on your dodgy connection may be interested to know that on average our speeds drop by around 42% from those advertised by their respective providers, with Sky and TalkTalk topping the list of stingy suppliers. Sky reportedly only pumps out 4.8Mbps on average compared to the promised 12Mbps and TalkTalk offer 5Mbps of the boasted 8Mbps.

A survey of 3,000 U.K home broadband users found in general we suffer from sluggish slow videos and lag on online games which will be attributed to this withholding of our connections true potential. The Guardian used an online speed test, the type which can be easily found online and we’d be interested to hear how well off our readers are when it comes to their own home speeds.
