Not content with sitting back and watching the number of downloads skyrocket for ‘Angry Birds Space’, developer Rovio now has plans to launch another game.
The game is called ‘Angry Birds Heikki’, and it’s named so after the Finnish Formula 1 driver Heikki Kovalainen. Rovio recently struck a deal with Kovalainen to put Angry Birds branding on his race helmet – as you can see in the image above, the Finn’s helmet has been turned into the Red Bird.
We thought the partnership would stop there – a Finnish game maker teaming up with a Finnish race driver for some neat advertising – but oh no, it’s going further.
‘Angry Birds Heikki’ will be a browser-based game that you play on your PC or Mac, rather than a game that you buy in the shops or an app that you download to a smart device.
Rovio says it won’t be a great deal different to the original Angry Birds title, but it will feature racing themes and tweaks. We’re not sure of the extension to which racing will feature in the game, but it’s likely to only be themes and perhaps new levels.
Or perhaps, instead of the Mighty Eagle you could opt to use the mighty Heikki, upon which Kovalainen zooms through the level in his race car, obliterating everything in his path.
The Kovalainen partnership doesn’t stop there, as Rovio announced plans to launch a new range of Angry Birds merchandise with his name on. Again, the company hasn’t expanded upon this, although it did say that “bespoke content” would launch later in the year, after the game, which will launch on June 18th.
Angry Birds Space, the latest big title from Rovio, has recently hit over 50 million downloads. The entire catalog of Angry Birds games has amounted to a staggering 1 billion downloads on all platforms.
Rovio has also announced that the next game to launch after Angry Birds will be called ‘Amazing Alex’. It’s based on an older game called ‘Casey’s Contraptions’, which Rovio recently acquired the rights to.
‘Angry Birds Heikki’ will launch on June 18th. Have they gone too far or can you still not get enough of the bird-flinging action?
