Rumour: Samsung’s Galaxy S4 to come with S Pen Stylus

According to Korean source Enuri, the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S4 might come with a new addition to the series: An S-Pen stylus.

This advanced stylus has been more closely associated with Samsung’s Note series of tablets and smartphones, and uses a different underlying technology than capacitive styli. While it requires the display to include an additional component – an active digitiser – it does provide a significant boost to precision when a proper stylus like the S-Pen is used, allowing styli to be used for writing notes and other more dexterous tasks.

The inclusion of the stylus on the Galaxy S4 would certainly take away from the Note product line, which has been a surprise success for Samsung. The signature Samsung Galaxy Note 2 accessory would certainly add value to the Galaxy S4, but would it be enough of a benefit to justify sacrificing a product line which would otherwise have only its size going for it?

Indeed, we heard late last year that the Galaxy Note 3, the supposed upcoming follow-up to last year’s Note 2, would be even larger – up to 6.3″ diagonally – which would seem to indicate that it will remain as a separate product. Of course, either that rumour or this one might be fabricated. You never really can tell with these things, unfortunately!

The rest of the Samsung Galaxy S4’s specifications in this latest rumour are fairly similar to what we’ve heard before: a quad-core Exynos 5440 chipset built on a 28 nm process, a 5″ 1080p display, a 13 megapixel camera and a width of 9.2 mm.

So, what do you think? A likely rumour or just another one to be buried in the metaphorical salt?
