We’re slowly piecing together the puzzle that is the Samsung Galaxy S3, and this time we’ve got a big clue straight from the horse’s mouth. This isn’t a dodgy-looking render or a leaked prototype from China, oh no.
Samsung has just announced its latest super-fast processor, the Quad-Core Exynos. It has also confirmed exactly when we’ll be seeing devices making the most of the new chip: next week.
“Already in production the Exynos 4 Quad is scheduled to be adopted first into Samsung’s next Galaxy smartphone that will officially be announced in May,” Samsung revealed when launching the chip. We already know just what Samsung plans to announce in May: the Galaxy S3, on May 3rd.
So what’s so good about the new processor? It’s built on new 32nm architecture and is clocked at 1.4GHz, which is twice the power when compared to the current version. Not only is it much faster but it’s more energy efficient too. New Samsung products that use the chip will benefit from a 20% saving in battery life – more power and longer battery life is awesome, right?
“Samsung’s next Galaxy device, which will be officially announced soon, offers uncompromised performance and ground breaking multitasking features, thanks to Exynos 4 Quad’s powerful performance and efficient energy management technology.”
It was already expected that Samsung would use one of its own processors for the next Galaxy smartphone, but it looks as though the Galaxy S3 won’t be the only phone powered by the new Exynos. Samsung confirmed that other manufacturers will be using it too, such as Hong Kong-based Meizu.
We’ll find out what other tech will accompany the Exynos Quad-Core inside the Galaxy S3 one week today. What do you hope Samsung’s new flagship will feature?
