Samsung drops patent infringement cases against Apple

Look Tiny Tim… It’s a Christmas miracle…

After months of battling it out in courts across the globe Samsung has announced that it will drop all of its standard essential patent infringement cases against Apple in Europe to end the ongoing battles between the two companies which have seen damages awarded, products recalled and a whole lot of damage done to both companies.

The news has been reported by Blooomberg, who says that Samsung is dropping the infringement cases “in the interest of protecting consumer choice”, believing that “it is better when companies compete fairly in the marketplace.”

The infringement issues in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands will all be dropped soon after a recent update to the Apple-Samsung court battle in the US, where the judge ruled that it wouldn’t be banning the sale of over 20 Samsung devices.

Samsung also added that: “We strongly believe it is better when companies compete fairly in the marketplace, rather than in court.”

All in all, Samsung hasn’t done so well out of the constant court battles and in a year where the Korean manufacturer sailed to the top of the Android podium, the constant back and forth between the two companies in the courts has taken away from a good year.

Hopefully this will see both of the companies let the issues rest so that they can start focusing on making better devices and not just trying to shut down each other’s successes.
