Samsung finally releases a Tizen phone

Samsung have been supposedly making a Tizen phone for what seems like forever now, many times a Samsung Tizen phone was promised and never delivered. No more though, Samsung has finally created its first Tizen smartphone. I give you the Z1, which will be on sale as of today! (14/01/15… in India).

Don’t go jumping on a plane to India just yet though, it’s a much lower spec device than you may be hoping for. The Tizen Z1 will be packing a 4-inch WVGA screen, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 768MB of RAM, a 1500mAh battery, a 3.1-megapixel camera and 4GB of storage with a micro SD slot for extra storage. It works with 3G networks, but there’s no LTE.

Obviously these specs are considerate of the Indian phone market where it will be going on sale for about £60.00 give or take, we shouldn’t expect any more for that money. Still it is running Tizen so the low specs don’t necessarily write this device off, Tizen is a much more lightweight OS than Android or IOS, so it should still be fast, especially on startup, this will also help with an extended battery life which should be impressive compared to other smartphones awful lifespans.

Details of if or when the Z1 will appear in the US and European markets are nowhere to be found, but in time I am sure we will see Tizen models popping up, at least they’ve successfully managed one. I will be interested to see how a new OS is received amongst the heavily dominated Android and Apple IOS market, People don’t like change.
