Nothing like a good gadget rumour to start your Friday!
HTC and LG have been the early adopters in the 3D smartphone market, releasing the EVO 3D and Optimus 3D phones respectively. Sharp has also gotten in on the act, releasing a 3D handset in the Far East.
Now it would seem that other manufacturers are joining in, namely Korean manufacturer Samsung. A report from Korea’s ETNews claims that sources familiar with Samsung’s plans has confirmed to them a forthcoming 3D smartphone, which at present is named the ‘Galaxy 3D’.
A supposed specifications sheet has also been found and makes the Galaxy 3D sound almost identical to the Galaxy S II, just with 3D capabilities thrown in. Specs include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch auto-stereoscopic 3D display and dual 8-megapixel cameras on the back for capturing 3D stills and video content. ETNews’ source reports there will also be a HDMI-out socket (presumably MHL or Micro HDMI) for viewing back your 3D content and HD content on compatible TV sets.
As you would expect, the Galaxy 3D will come with Android Gingerbread preloaded, though interestingly the source says an upgrade to the forthcoming Android Ice Cream Sandwich software will be available as soon as it comes out.
We’re filing this one under rumours but also under “we’re excited about this one”. Will Samsung be too late to the 3D smartphone party or has it only just begun? Let us know what you think of a 3D Samsung Galaxy by tweeting us @Gadget_Helpline.
