Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners rejoice! For Google has officially announced that a software update containing a fix for the volume bug should reach everyone in the next week.
The Big G recently announced: “We’re currently rolling out a fix for the volume issue which will reach everyone in the coming week.”
The Galaxy Nexus has been on sale in the UK for around two weeks now, though the hype surrounding the release of the first Android 4.0-based smartphone was marred by a number of customers reporting issues with the volume dropping out at random, and the volume rocker button becoming unresponsive.
Thankfully, Google’s clever people quickly figured out the problem – radio interference when using 2G mobile networks in the UK. Though this initially sounded like a hardware problem, Google quickly assured us that a simple tweak of some settings in the software would fix the issue.
Developers got hold of an unreleased version of the fix just a few days ago, giving those brave enough a chance to fix the issue themselves, before Google had officially given it the go-ahead.
We’ve been thoroughly enjoying both the Galaxy Nexus and the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software since receiving our handset. We’ve recently filmed a video review which should be up on our YouTube channel very shortly, so stay tuned!
