Music to the ears of Samsung’s UK fans today, as the Korean co. are repackaging its popular super-smartphone to include a new compact 3.6 touchscreen display and WiFi connected music player for our globally local mobile market.
In a choice of black or white, Android 2.3 Gingerbread packing challenger to the iPod Touch will deliver MP3, WMA, WAV, ACC, OGG and FLAC audio tracks and with the Android Market also close to hand, access to music apps such as Spotify is always available. This in addition to synch features with Media Player and Apple’s own iTunes.
The Samsung Galaxy WiFi 3.6 runs on a 1GHz CPU, and supports 8GB or 16GB of onboard data, with a potential extra 32GB with microSD card – That’s a whole lot of tracks.
There’s also a simply little shooter on board for casual photographers, with a 2-megapixel camera with LED flash and VGA for video calling.
Prices range from £150 for the 8GB WiFi model and surprisingly only £20 for the extra eight gigs with the 16GB model coming in at £170. These will both be for sale through high street electronics retailers Argos, Dixons, HMV and online store Amazon – which reveals a release date of September 9th for the 8GB version and September 24th for the 16GB (currently up for pre-order).
More musical pocket gadgets are on the way, with the HTC range getting some Beats with the Vigor, Runnymede and ‘Special Edition’ Sensation mobiles – as well as Sony’s revival of the Walkman!
