We’re already expecting Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 to be jam-packed with technology, and although plenty of features have been leaked already, there are still surprises in store for March 14th.
Sam Mobile is doing its very best to make sure we know as much about the phone as possible ahead of Thursday, so if you’re trying to keep your mind clear to feel the full surprise effect when the launch takes place later this week, it’d be a good idea to tune out now.
The Samsung-centric site, which tends to be pretty spot on with its information, claims that we’ll be able to control the Galaxy S 4’s display without actually touching it. Samsung will be making use of ‘floating touch’ technology, which means we’ll be able to hover a finger around 1cm above the display and scroll through webpages, open items and more.
We’ve already seen this technology featured on the Sony Xperia Sola, which launched last year. We were mighty impressed by floating touch, although the tech was really in its infancy and we were limited to what we could do with it. Hopefully Samsung will come up with more uses for it – playing games, fast forwarding videos and skipping music tracks would all be awesome.
The Korean company itself has used a similar technology in the Galaxy Note II, although an S Pen stylus is what the screen will detect hovering above it, rather than the user’s finger.
No wires
The S 4 will also feature Qi wireless charging tech, according to the same website. The Galaxy S 3 was also said to feature wireless charging when it launched last year, although Samsung’s required add-on to make this work never actually materialised. With rivals like Nokia and LG offering wireless charging in their latest phones, Samsung will want to put itself on the same list.
Sam Mobile notes that the S 4 will feature wireless charging by way of an additional backplate, which we’re really hoping Samsung will either bundle with the phone on launch or actually release the accessory.
