We learned way back before the Galaxy S4 became real that Samsung was planning to launch a series of different devices under the ‘Project J’ name, one of which is the Galaxy S4 Mini. Amidst the storm of excitement surrounding the Galaxy S4, its Mini twin has been caught on camera.
Courtesy of Sam Mobile we have a few images of the Galaxy S4 Mini, with some showing a comparison in size between the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and the Mini. It’s clear to see that Samsung has done as it did last year and created a perfectly shrunken-down version of its flagship smartphone in terms of looks.
Design-wise the S4 Mini will include the same stylish silver band around the edges, same shape and same button layout but on a smaller scale. Unfortunately the pictures don’t tell us whether Samsung will keep the same textured back cover, however.
A snap of the S4 Mini’s About page tells us that it will go by the model number GT-I9190, although recently three variants that are similar have appeared on Samsung’s own support site. We’re told that there will be both quad-core and dual-core variants, as well as two others that will be destined for Asian markets.
The phone will run Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 along with Samsung’s newest version of the TouchWiz user interface, so it will work in much the same way as the S4. We’re also told that the mini-me will sport a smaller 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a 256ppi pixel density – slightly larger and sharper than the Galaxy S3 Mini.
Samsung will apparently launch the Galaxy S4 Mini some-time around June or July. We’re hoping to find some more information in the meantime!
