The Samsung Galaxy S3 is currently sitting pretty as the hottest phone in the world, but that doesn’t mean the rumour mill ever stops. Before 2013 has even started, we’re hearing the first rumours of the Galaxy S4.
Samsung’s hugely popular S3 has just about been around for six months, which in theory makes it another six months until the next iteration of the flagship phone goes on sale. With less than a year to go until launch, the rumour mill has started to turn.
Various rumours have reported that we’ll see the phone unveiled much earlier in the year – one report suggests the Consumer Electronics Show in January, and another believes Samsung will show it off in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. A February unveiling at MWC is a legitimate possibility, as Samsung has shown off top end phones there in the past, though we don’t believe it will show any phones at CES.
If true, this would give us a much earlier unveiling than last year’s, bringing a new flagship Galaxy smartphone to the market less than a year after the S3 – Samsung usually reveals the next Galaxy around the April/May time.
Rumours about the device itself suggest a larger 5-inch display with a Full HD resolution to match rival HTC’s new Deluxe handset. That screen is said to be one of Samsung’s own AMOLED displays, with a very sharp pixel density of 441 ppi.
A 13-megapixel rear camera is also suggested, as is a much faster Cortex A15 processor. These suggested specifications are all natural progressions from what’s in the current S3, and so they could merely be somebody’s predictions that have been turned into rumours. Either way, expect the tech world to blow up with Galaxy S4 rumours in the next few months as we draw closer to MWC.
