Samsung Galaxy S7 Phone and Case Images Appear Online

With a New Year dawning Samsung will look to continue at the top of the smartphone sales after a successful reign throughout 2015 with the Galaxy S6. The next addition to the Galaxy S brand has been talked about since the S6 and its sibling, the S6 Edge, hit the shelves in April last year – and now we’ve got an early look at what we might be able to expect from the Samsung Galaxy S7 appearance wise, thanks to a third-party case maker called ITSKINS.

Over a dozen protective products are showcased for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge on shop.itskins.com and the information and rendered images confirm Samsung will be taking the same approach to display and design as last season’s model. By this Samsung once again offers variety to its customers and seeks to build on the success of the S6 Edge which sported a uniquely double-curved display – a gimmick which was a gamble, but one which really paid off for the South Korean tech giant.

However, from the glimpse we’re given it doesn’t seem like much has really changed in terms of look. Notably, the camera and lens are positioned exactly as they were on the Galaxy S6 and the front side looks the same too. There are a few details missing including the back and recent buttons and there appears to be an extra dot for an additional front facing sensor but these may be oversights in an incomplete interpretation of the final design. We’re taking everything we see at this point with a pinch of salt.

Other reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will both carry the currently beta Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS and feature a 5.2” touchscreen display, only a marginal 0.1mm larger than the preceding models. The duo will likely be joined by Plus-sized variants at some point after release which is confirmed by the ITSKINS website. Unfortunately no date is given for the cases which are currently on pre-order.

It’s also been suggested that Samsung will move to a magnesium alloy casing rather than the aluminium casing which caused some overheating issues when used with the intended Snapdragon 810 processor. Changing the material also opens up the speculation that Samsung will welcome back Qualcomm as its chip manufacturer on the Galaxy S7.

We’ve not even kicked off the new tech calendar year but the next Galaxy is not so far away. Predictions are pointing towards an official announcement as soon as February, possibly at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
