Samsung Galaxy S7 Pre-orders Shipping with Free Gear VR

There’s more big news regarding the Samsung Galaxy S7 today, as according to a number of reports Samsung’s upcoming flagship model will include a free Gear VR headset for pre-order customers.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is set to be launched at the Unpacked 2016 event on February 21st at the opening of this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and will get us to ‘rethink what a phone can do’ – to borrow from the event slogan.

One of those things it can do is pair up with Gear VR – Samsung’s virtual reality wearable which was developed with the help of Oculus, the Facebook-owned company behind the VR leading product Oculus Rift.

Much more substantial than Google Cardboard, Gear VR is a permanent plastic face adornment which connects to a selection of Samsung mobiles and includes its own processor, touch panel control and sensors that activate it only when it’s being worn. Current compatible devices include the Samsung Galaxy S6 range and Galaxy Note 5 and the retail value of the Gear VR on its own is around £80.

The Gear VR is now believed to be included with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge for a limited time only, between the announcement date of February 21st, which will also be the pre-order start date, and ending on March 10th. This info is not officially confirmed but comes from various reliable sources including Android World and Droid Life and the final approval on the subject would come from leak-meister Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) who simply retweeted the news with the word “True.

We look forward to Samsung’s Galaxy S7 announcement event next week which should clarify everything from final appearance of the handset and the specifications and surprise features and also including a final price for the brand new flagship Android smartphone.
