The Galaxy SIII is likely to reveal itself at Mobile World Congress in February next year. The rumoured specs until this point suggest a 4.6 inch Super AMOLED Plus HD display, 2GB of RAM and a massive 12-Megapixel camera. The thinking had been that it would sport a Samsung Exynos 4412 quad-core chip, which is the logicl step up from the Exynos chip in the Galaxy SII.
That particular chip packs in 1.5GHz into each core, which essentially means that apps, games and other UI-based processes would run like a dream.
Now that Samsung has unveiled the new 2GHz Exynos 5250 processor, industry insiders think that it’s likely to get a showing in the SIII instead. While ‘dual-core’ may sound like a disappointment, the added grunt in terms of GHz should still ensure it’s got market-leading power.
With Motorola and HTC rumoured to be bringing out quad-core phones soon, Samsung had better hope they make the right decision; the number of cores could soon turn into the new ‘megapixels’ in terms of being a figure on the box that shifts handsets. In truth, the average user would probably struggle to notice the difference between a dual or quad-core processor.
