Exclusive details of a new phone dubbed the ‘Galaxy S4 Zoom’ from Samsung have just surfaced, suggesting that the company is working on a variant of its new flagship phone that focuses on photography (pardon the pun).
Samsung rumour experts SamMobile claim to have received exclusive information about the phone, which will be a spin-off of the Korean company’s latest and greatest mobile.
The phone will be the first from Samsung to feature a 16 megapixel rear camera – and one of just a few to pack such a high megapixel count – and will be a sort-of merger between the Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Camera, which in itself is a dedicated digital camera powered by Android software.
Whilst the image sensor grows, we’re told that the screen size will shrink down to 4.3-inches, from 4.99-inches on the regular S4. Quality will also be lowered, from Full HD (1920 x 1080) to qHD (960 x 540), although the panel will remain a Super AMOLED one from Samsung.
Android Jelly Bean and Samsung TouchWiz Nature UX will be the software partnership powering the phone, with a host of connectivity including Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS to back it up. There will reportedly be 8GB of internal memory and a micro SD card slot to expand on the internal storage by up to 64GB. Unfortunately the processor and RAM specifics are said to be undecided at the moment.
Records of a new Samsung Galaxy Camera device were recently spotted online, and so the device could well be in the works. However, we find it a little odd that a phone with an even larger image sensor would be paired with a smaller and poorer quality display – you’d want the S4’s big and sharp Full HD display to be viewing your 16MP snaps back on, surely!
The Galaxy S4 Zoom is the second rumoured variant of the S4, with a ruggedized and waterproof version also mentioned by a Samsung exec. Could the company be plotting to launch a whole S4 range? SamMobile says the Galaxy S4 Zoom will launch around June/July time and will come in both black and white.
