Samsung Omnia W Launched – Samsung’s First Mango-Powered Windows Phone

Samsung has unveiled a brand new smartphone running the latest (and currently unreleased) version of Windows Phone, Mango. The phone itself is called the Samsung Omnia W, read on for more information.

The Omnia W is the direct successor to Samsung’s first Windows Phone 7-powered smartphone, the Omnia 7. Samsung’s latest Windows Phone features the same type of screen – a Super AMOLED display – but in a smaller size of 3.7-inches (the Omnia 7 had a 4-inch screen).

Inside there is an improved processor in the form of a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip which is clocked at 1.4GHz. On the rear of the phone is a 5-megapixel autofocus camera, and a secondary video calling camera is located on the front, to the right of the speaker grill. The rear camera is capable of capturing HD video in 720p quality.

Perhaps the biggest draw to this phone is the software. Microsoft’s first major update to Windows Phone 7, Mango, will come preloaded on this smartphone from Samsung. The latest software means all-new Bing maps and search features, deep Twitter integration and much more.

The Samsung Omnia W will initially go on sale in Italy at the end of October, with a gradual rollout across Europe and the rest of the world following on from that. We’re told it won’t be sold in North America however, but don’t fret if that’s where you’re based, as Samsung will be selling a very similar phone, the Samsung Focus Flash, in your region around that time.

We reported on two other Mango-powered Samsung smartphones including the Focus Flash, the other being the Focus S, earlier this month. Read up on both phones here.
