Samsung Plotting to Release High Resolution 11.6-Inch Tablet Before the iPad 3 Hits

Word on the street is that Samsung is prepping a tablet computer to rival Apple’s forthcoming iPad 3, and it plans to release a similar product before Apple can do so.

The tech world is already talking about what Apple could change and improve for its next iPad tablet, and one of the main features talked about is the screen. Many expect Apple to improve the screen quality by using a high resolution ‘Retina Display’ for the tablet, giving it a High Definition quality. We’ve already heard that Apple has placed orders for this type of screen, so it’s looking pretty likely.

However, tech news site BGR has reported Samsung are plotting a high resolution tablet of its own, and what’s more – it plans to launch the device before Apple launches the iPad 3, in February of next year.

Samsung has a new tablet in the works, which will apparently have an 11.6-inch screen with an insanely high resolution of 2560 x 1600, with a widescreen 16:10 aspect ratio. The tablet will also run the latest version of Android; Ice Cream Sandwich, and under the hood will be a Dual-Core Exynos processor running at a blistering 2GHz. If these specs turn out to be true, Apple could have a serious challenge on its hands.

We reported a while back that Samsung had succeeded in creating a new generation of high resolution tablet screens, which back then we were sure would be for the iPad 3. However, several patent lawsuits later and we feel that Apple won’t be using parts from Samsung. Fortunately for Samsung, this means they can use their next-gen screens for their own tablets.

Despite the jump in screen size from Samsung’s latest tab – the Galaxy Tab 10.1 – BGR’s source says that the size of the new tablet won’t differ too much from what we’re used to. Unlike the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung’s new tablet will have a very thin bezel, meaning that the screen will run close to the edges of the casing.

We’re expecting to see Samsung’s iPad 3-beater launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next February. Stay tuned for more as we hear it.
