After the fallout of HP’s disasterous turnaround on (and subsequent discontinuation of) just about everything it currently does, it’s once ace in the hole – WebOS – now appears to be homeless. Industry insiders say that the touch-based operating system needn’t worry, however, as it may yet find a home with Samsung.

Samsung’s interest in WebOS makes perfect sense. Google’s big Motorola buyout will no doubt leave Samsung worried that Moto handsets will be getting all the Android exclusives and attention in future, which could see its phones being left by the wayside.

Google has maintained that the Motorola deal will not affect Android’s openness, but in WebOS Sammie might have something of a fall back, in case it decides to go it alone. Adopting WebOS might also help stave off Apple, who’s been throwing lawsuits at Samsung for the past few months.

Either way, if the deal does go through, you can pretty much guarantee that the Bada platform will be relegated to the history books. What do you think of WebOS? Should Samsung buy it? Let us know of the Gadget Helpline Twitter feed.
