Samsung Unifies Windows Tab, One and Book brands to ATIV name

Samsung has announced that it will be merging its branding lines of products by combining its Windows PC based laptops and computer in line with its Windows Phone based devices by classing all as Samsung Ativ products.

The Ativ brand name will be now be synonymous with all Samsung windows based products just as the Galaxy branding is the Android OS branding for the manufacturer.

Samsung has stated that the changes to naming is designed to give “one cohesive brand” to Samung products and that they “hope our Ativ brand will see the same kind of traction and awareness that we have seen with our Galaxy brand, with consumers associating ATIV with Windows in the same way they associate Galaxy with Android.” – Simon Stanford, vice president of IM division at Samsung.

The changes will be made to products from the 29th of April and will cover Samsung notebooks including the Chronos and Ultra variants), Samsung all-in-one PCs joining the Ativ Smart PC and Smart PC Pro.

The full list of re-named devices works as:

What’s more Samsung has put in place a new SideSync technology feature that aims to allow customers to seamlessly switch from working on their PC to their Android-based Samsung smartphone by simply connecting the two devices via a USB cable.

So if you have a Galaxy S4 smartphone and a newly branded Ativ 7 laptop then you can conentc the two devices via USB and then you will be able to respond to a text on a mobile phone from their PC keyboard; view maps, photos and multimedia from their phone on their PC screen; make edits to files on their phone via their ATIV PC; and even drag and drop files from one unit to another.

SideSync is compatible with all ATIV notebooks, laptops, tablet devices and All in One PCs with Windows 8 (32/64 bit), and currently supports Samsung Android-based devices. It will be pre-loaded as a desktop app on all Windows 8 ATIV models.

It seems to be a good move for Samsung to really power up its branding of devices and make its product linup much clearer to the public.
