Samsung Mobile and Visa have teamed up to bring over 60,000 contactless payment systems to the city of London, primarily for the 2012 London Olympics.
The NFC (Near-Field Communications) Technology will be provided by Samsung for mobile devices, and Visa will implement the payment systems and contactless terminals you’ll be able to swipe your phone over in stores.
Samsung are even introducing a NFC-enabled handset specifically for the games – The Samsung Olympic and Paralympic games handset. It will come with a special Visa-enabled SIM card for wireless payments, and will initially be given to sponsored athletes before being made available to the general public.
The two aim to leave their mark on London with NFC payment technology, hoping that retailers continue to use their contactless payment systems long after the 2012 Olympic Games have finished.
