Samsung withdraw Galaxy S Gingerbread update

If you weren’t super quick on the draw with the Galaxy S Gingerbread update, chances are you’ve missed your chance for now. Samsung have withdrawn the software update from Kies, leaving those who updated feeling rather puzzled, and those who didn’t – a bit let down.

We saw the Gingerbread update start to appear over the weekend in Europe, with Vodafone UK putting their branded version of the update up for download yesterday. Google have suspended downloads of the update for the time being, with no word currently on why.

What we do know, however, is that the problem doesn’t appear to be with all updated devices. Vodafone UK have reported that their updates seem to have gone through without a hitch, whereas customers in other areas of Europe have suffered unknown problems after updating.

Updating to 2.3 has been suspended via Kies, Samsung’s PC suite for the handset, though there are still ROMs of the software floating around the web which you can still install onto your device if you’re really desperate. We would recommend awaiting an official update via Kies for the meantime.
