In the past month the Segway two-wheeled self-balancing battery-powered electric vehicle has had a big focus put on it, as the odd looking machines have been used extensively for filming the London Olympic 2012 games and discreetly appearing (even crashing) on our TV’s.
With the Segway machines retailing for around £5000 they are not cheap to buy, but with an increasing market for adventure days and activities many customers are experiencing the thrills and spills of the Segway machines.
Famously the British millionaire businessman who bought the Segway died after riding one of his Segway scooters off a cliff and into a river near his Yorkshire estate, less than a year after he purchased the company.
The Segway’s themselves can be used by people with mobility issues, camera crews as well as speed enthusiasts, as the scooters themselves can get to a whopping 12.5 mph, which whilst standing is an exhilarating speed!
There are about 80,000 Segway’s currently in use worldwide with most in the use adventure companies and filming businesses. Whilst the gadget hasn’t taken off around the world, possibly due to its odd look and famously awkward driving technique many famous users have been seen crashing the a Segway including Jackie Chan, Gordon Ramsey, Piers Morgan and even George “Dubya” Bush.
And we at the Gadget Helpline are no different, so check out our crash video below:
Either way we seem to have a love/hate affair with the Segway which is slowly but surely winning people’s hearts and bruising people’s egos across the globe.
