Sky Go will be coming to Android smartphones and tablet devices in the coming months in the form of an official app, TechRadar reports.
The app, which until now has been an exclusivity to iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and PC users, will be making an appearance in the Android Market within the next few months, a spokesperson for Sky has confirmed.
Sky Go allows Sky TV subscribers to take Sky Sports on the go or away from their TV, using a laptop, PC or Apple mobile device to view content. If you’re a Sky Sports subscriber, then the app will give you access to Sky’s five sports channels wherever you are in the UK or Ireland.
The app also brings movies on the go from the Sky Premier channel to subscribers of the Sky Movies 1 and 2 services.
At The Gadget Helpline we’ve noticed a steady increase over the past month of customers with new Android phones and tablets who are hoping to get the Sky Go app. We don’t like to let our customers down, so naturally we’re very glad that Sky has confirmed an Android app is on the way, which should keep Android users content.
It is estimated that around 1.6 million people are already using Sky Go, which is impressive given the small number of devices that it will work on. Adding Android compatibility to the mix should see the user numbers soar.
Are you an Android user who has been waiting for Sky Go to come to your phone or tablet?
