Microsoft owned voice and video chat company Skype has announced a countrywide free Wi-Fi service through a partnership with Wicom; a wireless carrier which provides internet hotspots to high street and public locations.
Logging in with a registered Skype account (instead of painstakingly having to register another account through something like Cloud) will enable users to access a number of as-of-yet-unnamed hotspots and enjoy a virtual face-to-face or free call with mates who also have the software installed on their laptop or even a Windows Phone, Android, Apple based smartphone or tablet.
Hopping onto cyberspace with Skype via Wicom will be free to casual users and members of the public, but if you’re using the service for business and making conference calls from your local Wetherspoons for example then there will be a small charge, which hasn’t been confirmed yet.
After small pushes into the Wi-Fi arena over recent years, with only brief promotional periods offering the availability of wireless internet at no cost, Skype is ready to make it a full time deal and public web users in the United Kingdom can enjoy the service soon, but again Skype is vague with the details and reluctant to dish the info, so the Gadget Helpline will follow this story and keep our readers updated!
