Hi-Fi and sound experts Sonos have announced yet another top notch Hi-Fi system for the home, this time aimed for your average home user rather than true audiophiles – The Sonos Play:3.
The Play:3 is the little brother of Sonos’ Play:5, which is a true beast of a home Hi-Fi system. Due to the Play:5’s high price, Sonos developed a much more affordable alternative which still retained the same great quality – the Sonos Play:3 will sell for £259 in the UK.
Featuring two mid-range drivers, one tweeter and a bass radiator which uses energized air volume for a real ‘oomph’, the Play:3 is a very loud speaker system for its size. Class-D amplifiers power each speaker too, meaning both power and incredible clarity, giving an all-round great sound.
Sonos are experts in multi-room audio setups, so naturally you’ll be able to pair more Sonos speakers with the Play:3 to create a bigger sound setup in your home. An Ethernet port on the back of the speaker provides internet connectivity and the ability to stream music from online services such as Spotify, Deezer and Napster. If you’ve got a NAS (network attached storage) drive, or a networked hard drive, you’ll even be able to stream music from that to the Play:3.
The technology doesn’t stop there, either, with a free controller app for iPhone and Android and PC, available from the App Store and Android Market or the Sonos website. The app will let you control what’s playing from your Play:3, as well as volume control and much more.
Perhaps the coolest feature of the Play:3 is a built in accelerometer – yep, the very same gadget you’ll find in most smartphones nowadays. Because the Play:3 can be placed on end or on its side, the accelerometer will guage how it sits and alter the way the 3 speakers output sound, optimising sound for the position you put the speaker in.
Selling now for £259 across the UK, the Play:3 is available in gloss white and black finishes. Advancedmp3players.co.uk are also bundling a free 1 month Spotify membership with the speaker when you buy from them.
