Sony address poor sales and distribution of PSOne titles on Xperia Play

A little item of news from Sony now – and it’s not another Playstation Network update!

In regards to reportedly low sales and limited availability of PSOne games for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Head of Market Development Dominic Neil-Dwyer spoke to Playstation Lifestyle website addressing the concerns – or lack of – from Sony’s point of view.

Feeble sales of original Sony platform games for the new mobile phone / gaming gadget hybrid have seen less than 1000 titles shifted since the Xperia Play hit the market at the beginning of April.

In the article DN-D comments on the awareness factor and availability of titles through the Android Market saying “There’s only a few, at the minute, PlayStation One titles there, and there’s more coming on a regular basis, and there’s the whole PlayStation as a content provider exclusive to the device, the story about that, that will emerge and people will see.”

He goes on to state “I think we’ll make a full assessment of if it has achieved our expectations fully, further down the line, so we’re very happy.”

The article can be read in full at Playstation Lifestyle.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is available across several major UK networks and will be launching on the O2 in June – after bugs halted the original scheduling.
