A little light may have been shone on the future of the Playstation platform after Sony’s CFO teased (or blurted?) that the next evolution of the console is already underway.
After Sony’s Head of Computer Entertainment previously shunned any suggestions that a “Playstation 4” was in the immediate pipeline, Sony finance boss Masaru Kato has counter-commented – revealing work has begun.
Via conference call to investors, Kato is quoted as saying “For the home equipment, the PS3 still has a product life but this is a platform business, so for the future platform, when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that but our development work is already under way, so costs are incurred there”
Did the CFO put his foot in it there? Sony has been up very hush-hush until now on the topic of the Playstation console’s future, and initially claimed a 10-year plan for the PS3 – which dropped on the gaming marketplace in late 2006.
We’d think this was a slip-up and imagine Sony would like a little distance between recent PSN difficulties and any major console announcements. Let us know your thoughts and comments on this or any of our blog articles at our Official Gadget Helpline Facebook Page!
