Watch out, Samsung. It looks as though Sony has plans to steal the Galaxy Note’s limelight with a monstrous 6.44-inch smartphone-come-tablet that we currently know as the Xperia L4, or ‘Togari’, to go by its codename.
Rumours of a ‘phablet’ device from Sony have been circling since January, but now more sources are coming forward with information about the Android behemoth. Two sources claim to have spoken to separate Sony representatives and have received confirmation that the ‘Togari’ is real.
Just like the Samsung Galaxy Note which originally made this large size of smartphone popular, Sony’s device will come with a stylus of some sort in order to draw, write and make annotations on the screen. The display is however much larger than the most recent Galaxy Note II – 6.44-inches to the Note II’s 5.5-inches. It’ll also offer a much higher quality image, with the Sony reps reportedly confirming it will offer a Full HD 1080p resolution – that’s 1920 x 1080 glorious pixels.
In keeping with the latest in screen technology, the Xperia L4 is also said to pack one of Qualcomm’s new and super-fast Snapdragon 600 or 800 processors, a healthy 3GB of RAM and the Adreno 330 graphics chip. Sony will provide 32 gigs of internal memory and a hefty 3,500 mAh battery to power the thing, whilst 13 megapixel and 2 megapixel cameras back and front will both be capable of shooting Full HD video.
We get the impression that Sony is making this as an “everything but the kitchen sink” device, with LTE and NFC connectivity bundled in as well as an IR blaster which makes the phone programmable as a remote.
With any luck we’ll hear something a little more official from Sony in the near future – perhaps the Xperia L4 will beat the Galaxy Note III to the punch?
