Sony has officially set a release date for its forthcoming PS Vita portable games console for the UK, Europe, USA, New Zealand, Canada, Africa and Australia – February 22nd, 2012.
The Japanese tech giant made the announcement at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco yesterday, and also confirmed UK price for the base model (Wi-Fi only), £217.
“For those looking to get their hands on the ultimate in handheld entertainment, I’m thrilled to let you know that starting on February 22, 2012,PS Vita will be available at major retailers in the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe,” said Jack Tretton of Sony Computer Entertainment America, speaking at the conference.
There will be two versions of the PS Vita available come February 22nd, a Wi-Fi only model and a Wi-Fi and 3G model. The prices are £217 and £261 respectively, or €249.99 and €299.99 if you’re based elsewhere in Europe.
“We are happy to share a piece of news that you have all been waiting for: PlayStation Vita will be available throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia from 22nd February, 2012,” says a further statement on Sony’s official UK blog.
Sony’s PS Vita is set to usher in a new generation of portable gaming with heaps of processing power and awesome technology. It features a powerful ARM Cortex A9 processor and a large 5-inch OLED screen. The back panel of the console also features a nifty touch panel for intuitive controls in-game.
