Sony has slipped out a new video which teases the arrival of its next games console at a PlayStation event to be held on February 20th.
The video, which has now been unofficially confirmed by the Wall Street Journal as being for the Playstation 4 (or ‘Orbis’ as it is codenamed), emerged yesterday after Sony dropped a tweet on its official Twitter presence claiming we will “see the future” later this month after the company’s investors meet and the new console is ready to greet the awaiting public.
The video promo for the PlayStation event features a slick animation sequence with the X, Square, Circle and Triangle symbols familiar with Sony console fans since the original gaming platform hit homes in 1995 up to the recent portable PS Vita. Some hopeful sources are even suggesting there’s a glimpse of the future Sony hardware hidden somewhere within the clip, although after much scrutiny the Gadget Helpline is yet to see it (if our readers can spot this, send us a tweet @Gadget_Helpline).
We were expecting news of Sony’s offering to arrive at the E3 expo – the same time Microsoft steps up to the plate for its latest swing at the games market. Rumours surrounding the PS4 suggest the console will come with 8GB of RAM, with Blu-ray continuing to be the standard for games and movies despite speculation that the next Sony console will be disc-free. Readers can check out a list of the latest spec speculations in our earlier article.
The Gadget Helpline will be tuning in to the event and bringing you the latest on this most-anticipated console and Sony’s PS4 looks set to be one of a number of highlights to a most exciting year for gamers!
